Wind ensemble Helicon will be 40 years old in 2021!

And the ten enthusiastic musicians (with a shared passion for chamber music) celebrate this in a special anniversary concert in Theater Kerkrade; where the cradle of the ensemble lies. All this under the inspiring leadership of Harry Ries.

The Muses

The musical program that Helicon will be performing on the occasion of its 40th anniversary is varied and challenging. For example, Christiaan Jansen wrote the new work The Muses especially for this concert; a piece about the 9 muses who, according to legend, lived in the Helicon Mountains. Rhapsody in Blue

A second highlight in the anniversary program is the magnificent arrangement of Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue for wind ensemble and piano. The piano part will be performed by Wouter Bergenhuizen.
